Getting Started with an Adoption DNA Test

The role of DDC is to make DNA testing simple for adoption process. Our highly trained Adoption Team is specialized to assist adoption clients with their DNA testing needs, having worked with many agencies, attorneys, embassies and government offices, and private clients across the United States and around the world.

The following flowchart outlines the DNA testing process for both domestic and international adoptions. Follow these steps to set up your adoption DNA testing case.

International Adoption

  1. Choose the DNA Testing Service. An attorney, agency, or embassy will
ask for a DNA test for birthparent relinquishment.
OR

Domestic Adoption

  1. Choose the DNA Testing Service. An attorney, agency, or adoptive parent(s) will decide if an in-office peace of mind DNA test or a legal chain of custody DNA test will best meet the needs of the adoption.

  1. Initiate the DNA Test. Parties will initiate DNA testing by calling ( 1-800-681-7505 ), emailing ( adoption@dnacenter.com ), or faxing ( 1-513-881-7808 ) set-up instructions. These instructions will include complete contact information of every person to be tested.

  1. Send Required Documents and Payment. Fax to DDC the Letter of Representation (LOR) and (if a Guatemalan adoption) the International Adoption Testing Form. Make arrangements for partial or full payment of your DNA testing services.

Once you have completed these steps and we have received the required paperwork and initial payment, DDC will send the DNA sample collection kits to the appropriate recipients. If an attorney, agency, or embassy is collecting your DNA samples, they will arrange a sample collection appointment with you. Otherwise, we will schedule an appointment for you through our Scheduling Department at one of our collection sites for your DNA sample to be collected.

The collectors will return the DNA samples to DDC, and typically within 3 working days *, your DNA test will be completed. To learn more about our testing fees and turnaround times, please contact one of our friendly and knowledgeable Adoption Team members at 1-800-681-7505 . Once the testing balance has been paid in full, your DNA testing results will be released to you and to any additional interested parties that you indicate.

For any questions about the DNA testing process or to learn more, please contact the Adoption Team at 1-800-681-7505 or email us at adoption@dnacenter.com .

*Turnaround time varies based on the type of DNA test and the complexity of the case.
